Abstract
The subfamily Philomidinae is an odd group of Chalcidoidea currently placed in Perilampidae, although their bizarre morphology has suggested placement in a variety of other chalcidoid families. The genera of Philomidinae are reviewed, and a phylogenetic hypothesis proposed using an analysis of 22 morphological characters. Based on these results, a new genus is proposed, Vidlinus n.gen., with two resulting new combinations, Vidlinus abercornensis (Risbec) n.comb. and Vidlinus metallicus (Risbec) n.comb. Three new species are described, Aperilampus rabeharisoae Heraty, n.sp. (Madagascar), Philomides hamooniae Heraty, Derafshan, & Ghafouri Moghaddam n.sp. (Iran), and Philomides lasallei Heraty, n.sp. (Madagascar). Chalcura niayensis Risbec, 1957, is transferred to Aperilampus n.comb. An identification key and catalog to the known species of Philomidinae is provided. The first record of Philomides potentially ovipositing onto flowerbuds of Solanum is recorded.
